Writer of dirty first drafts and epic finals.

I’m a nerd for both the analytical and creative aspects of writing and marketing. There is no greater question than ‘why.’ Why does this work? Why should we build this? Why should you care? Every project should start with a clear purpose.

Originally from the midwest, I’ve spent a few years on both coasts throwing myself headfirst into every form of communication. Currently, I am the communications coordinator at a nonprofit and a freelance magazine writer. For fun, I write middle grade and young adult science fiction and fantasy stories. I’m a member of Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and a former co-editor for the Wisconsin SCBWI blog.

Bit of Backstory

When I was 11 years old, I was grounded from my bookshelf for 2 weeks. My parents hauled that heavy, old bookshelf into the hallway and took away all my reading lights. It was a fitting (and miserable) punishment. And it's a bit indicative of my life since.

Former derby girl, cliff jumper, and skydiver, I firmly believe in plunging headfirst into your fears. I will try just about anything once and escape the doldrums of modern life to go cliff jumping, skydiving, cross-country roadtripping, and burying my head in a book.

My favorite books are The Lord of the Rings. I dug battered copies of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers out of a bin at a library book sale in the fourth grade. The worn covers are barely hanging on, but I was entranced by the characters. Ever since, I've been chasing adventure.
